New Recycling Program Accepts Some E-Waste FREE
December 31, 2008 — Starting January 2009, the new E-Cycle Washington program will allow televisions, computers, monitors, and laptops from households, schools, small businesses, small governments and special purpose districts, and non-profits to be dropped off for free recycling at designated E-Cycle Washington sites throughout the state. Products NOT covered by the program include computer mice, printers, cell phones, scanners and other electrical devices and may incur a free for disposal or recycling.

December 17, 2008 — Transportation and Park Impact Fee Map Amendment ordinances were adopted by the Mountlake Terrace City Council on December 15, 2008.
Zoning Code Amendments Adopted for the Town Center
December 17, 2008 — Standards for any future six-story buildings in the Town Center were adopted by the Mountlake Terrace City Council on December 15. The new standards set size, height, and lot coverage requirements for six-story buildings.
Realtors Sponsor Community Award Program
December 12, 2008 — The Snohomish County-Camano Association of Realtors (SCCAR) has agreed to sponsor a new program to recognize property owners for exceptionally well-maintained, rejuvenated or improved homes and businesses in the City of Mountlake Terrace. Similar to Everett’s Monte Cristo Awards, the program will recognize people who take pride in their residences and businesses to enhance the positive image of Mountlake Terrace.

Applications Due for 2009 Lodging Tax Grants Community Grant Funds Not Available Due to Budget Reductions
November 26, 2008 — $23,000 in lodging tax funds is available to qualified applicants for projects and events that promote tourism in 2009. Recommended by the city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, lodging tax or tourism promotion funds come from the taxes collected from the Studio Six hotel located in Mountlake Terrace.

640-Bed Facility Could Be Built at Former Elementary in Shoreline
November 21, 2008—Public forums and environmental reviews
are planned to provide information and gather feedback regarding six potential
sites for a new 640-bed Municipal Jail for cities in King County, one
of which is in close proximity to the City of Mountlake Terrace. The Shoreline
site, the Grace Cole Education Complex formerly referred to as the Aldercrest
Annex or old Kellogg, is located at 2545 NE 200th Street.
