The Comprehensive Plan establishes coordinated goals, policies and specific actions necessary for managing growth within Mountlake Terrace over the next 20 years, to 2035. Providing strategies regarding community development, investment and quality of life, The Plan takes a broad - not necessarily detailed - perspective for the twenty-year period and incorporates future needs for population and employment growth.
Amendments to the Comprehensive Plan
The City Council held a public hearing for the 2017 Comprehensive Plan amendments on December 18, 2017 with adoption on February 5, 2018. The Plan is generally, with limited exemptions, amended no more than once a year.
The purpose of considering amendments to the citywide Comprehensive Plan is to ensure reflection of appropriate goals and policies, while staying consistent with state laws. Public hearings on annual minor amendments to the Comprehensive Plan are typically scheduled in the fall of each year. Each chapter of the Plan can be opened individually. Please see below. Adoption and Updates of the Comprehensive Plan
The Comprehensive Plan adopted in 2015 was considered a major update. Major updates are to occur at least once every eight years. The next major update is due in 2023. In between major updates, minor amendments can be adopted generally once a year.
Deadline for Comprehensive Plan Amendment Applications
Any application to amend the City of Mountlake Terrace Comprehensive Plan (map or text) must be submitted by the published deadline date. Public notice of the deadline date will be provided at least 60 days in advance of such deadline. Applications shall be delivered to the City of Mountlake Terrace Interim City Hall at 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 200, Mountlake Terrace, prior to the noticed deadline. An application fee applies.
